Patna: Indian students with a degree from a recognised foreign university are now eligible for government jobs in Bihar as the Bihar government now grasped a rule that barred such students from applying for government jobs in Bihar.

The Education Department had recently sought an opinion from the General Administration Department (GAD) about the validity of degrees owned by applicants, who come from Bihar, the Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University of Nepal.

“It has been decided that an Indian citizen, including a native of Bihar, possessing a valid degree from a recognised foreign university, will now be eligible for applying for a Bihar government job,” the GAD said in a recent notification.

Intermediate, senior secondary, and higher secondary examinations of the approved boards in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal will also be accepted for the jobs if the education has been pursued through the ‘regular mode’, Additional Chief Secretary (Education) Dipak Singh said.

The official said a notification will be issued soon, however, for now, the high school diploma or any other course pursued by the candidate through online or distance mode will not be considered for equivalence through the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), he further clarified.

The GAD said it would accept valid degrees from only those foreign universities that had been recognised by the competent authorities in its own country and also by the AIU. The association evaluates the courses, syllabus, standards and credits of the foreign universities and equates them in relation to various courses offered by Indian universities.

Back in 2015, a native of Bihar was allowed to possess an MBBS degree from a foreign country so that he can be eligible to get a government job in a government college and hospital in the state by the government by approving a Health Department proposal.
