The Ministry of Women and Child Development announces a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing early childhood care and education across India, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020.
National Curriculum for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) 2024
- Focus on Early Years: Recognizing that 85% of brain development occurs before the age of six, the ministry aims to fortify India’s early childhood care and education framework.
- Comprehensive Approach: Through initiatives like Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, supported by schemes like Palna and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), the ministry is committed to providing holistic childcare support.
- Competency-based Learning: The curriculum emphasizes competency-based learning through joyful activities, catering to all domains of development.
National Framework for Early Childhood Stimulation 2024
- Empowering Caregivers: The framework aims to empower caregivers and Anganwadi workers with tools and knowledge for optimal early stimulation.
- Nurturing Environment: Principles such as ‘serve and return’ and ‘love, talk, play’ are emphasized to create a nurturing environment for holistic child development.
- Flexibility and Effectiveness: Developed by the National Institute for Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD), the framework ensures flexibility and effectiveness through feedback from Anganwadi workers.
Training and Implementation
- Training of Anganwadi Functionaries: The NIPCCD will spearhead the training of Anganwadi functionaries on the new curriculum and framework.
- Vibrant Learning Hubs: The initiatives aim to transform every Anganwadi centre into a vibrant learning hub, fostering the holistic development of children nationwide.
