A four member delegation of the University of California at Santa Cruz, USA headed by its Chancellor Prof. Cynthia K. Larive called on Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) on 23rd March, 2023. Dr. Anna Finn, Associate Chancellor, Chief of Staff and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Ms. Becky George, Assistant Vice Provost, Global Engagement and Mr. John D. Pine, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Alumni Relations were the other three members of the delegation.
Prof. Cynthia K. Larive and other members of the delegation were ushered to the Vice Chancellor’s office by NCC cadets of the university in a grand welcome ceremony. The delegation was formally welcomed by JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar and Deans of the university at the Yasser Arafat Hall. The Vice Chancellor elaborated about the modest beginning of JMI, its great history and current impressive profile in her address which was followed by the screening of a film on JMI.
After the screening of the film all the Deans of JMI gave short presentations about their respective faculties and discussed possible areas of academic collaborations between the two universities.
Prof. Cynthia K. Larive, Chancellor in her presentation spoke about possible collaborations between the two institutions particularly in the field of South Asian studies, computer sciences, languages and social sciences.
Prof. Becky George, Assistant Vice Provost, Global Engagement said that their university offers two hundred summer internship programmes for foreign students in various fields. The two institutions can look for the possibility of starting a student exchange programme and agreed to having an MoU for academic collaborations in near future.
