The Department of School Education and Literacy, under the Ministry of Education, has commenced the registration process for the National Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the year 2023-24. Promoting Education and Generous Scholarships
The primary objective of this scholarship is to combat school dropouts, particularly in Class 8, by providing financial assistance that enables students to pursue their secondary education. Each year, the NMMSS awards one lakh fresh scholarships to selected students, starting from Class 9, and these scholarships continue through their studies in classes 10 to 12. The scholarship amount is a substantial Rs 12,000 per annum, providing crucial financial support to recipients.
The scholarship amount is directly transferred to the bank accounts of selected students through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. This ensures a hassle-free and efficient disbursement process.
