Northern India Schools Extend Winter Breaks as Cold Wave Sweeps Through

As the cold wave tightens its grip across northern India, multiple cities and states are responding with school holidays to shield students from the severe weather. Punjab, Haryana, and districts in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have taken measures to extend breaks, prioritizing the well-being of students. This article delves into the details of the school closures and the duration of the extended winter break.

Chandigarh’s Directive

In Chandigarh, the Department of School Education has issued a directive to suspend in-person classes for students up to Class 8 until January 20, 2024. The decision aims to protect children from extreme cold weather, with schools encouraged to organize online classes for these classes.

Punjab’s Suspension of Primary School Classes

In Punjab, all primary schools, including government, government-aided, and private schools, will remain closed from January 15 to January 21, 2024, for classes up to 5th. However, middle, high, and senior secondary schools will continue regular operations during specified hours.

Haryana’s Extended Winter Break for Class 3 Students

The Haryana government has extended the winter break for students up to Class 3 until January 18, aligning with the persistent cold wave conditions.

Uttar Pradesh Districts Respond to Cold Wave

Several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Noida, Greater Noida, and Lucknow, have extended winter holidays for students due to the ongoing cold wave conditions. In Noida and Greater Noida, educational activities for students from Nursery to Class 8 are suspended until January 16, 2024. Lucknow has also mandated the closure of schools up to Class 8 in response to the prevailing cold weather conditions.
