The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued a stern warning against the use of pirated school textbooks. These pirated copies might contain inaccuracies and are also a violation of copyright laws.
Concerns Over Incorrect Content
The NCERT raised concerns about the possibility of factually incorrect content in pirated textbooks. These unauthorized publishers often print NCERT textbooks without obtaining proper permission. This not only violates copyright laws but also goes against the fundamental principles of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF) 2023.
Legal Consequences for Infringement
According to a senior official from the council, individuals or publishers found selling NCERT textbooks without permission will face legal repercussions under the Copyright Act of 1957. The NCERT urges the public to refrain from purchasing or using such pirated textbooks and encourages reporting any sightings of such unauthorized copies.
Availability of New Textbooks
In more positive news, the NCERT announced the release schedule for new textbooks. Textbooks for Class 3 will be available by the last week of April, while those for Class 6 will be released by mid-May. Additionally, the council revealed that over 12.1 million copies of textbooks for classes 1, 2, 7, 8, 10, and 12 for the academic year 2023-2024 have been distributed nationwide.
