NCERT: In a historic development, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has achieved the prestigious status of a ‘Deemed University.’ This landmark announcement was made by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during the celebration of NCERT’s 63rd foundation day.
Enhanced Role in Education
NCERT, the foremost institution dedicated to school education in the country, has been at the forefront of various educational initiatives. These include educational research, curriculum development, and the creation of study materials and teaching-learning resources. With its new status as a deemed university, NCERT’s pivotal role in education has been further expanded.
This significant decision acknowledges NCERT’s well-established reputation and undeniable contributions to the field of school education. By elevating NCERT to the status of a deemed university, its capacity to uphold its unwavering commitment to delivering quality education is set to grow exponentially.
Union Education Minister’s Vision
During his address on NCERT’s 63rd foundation day, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the council’s vital role in the education sector. He stated, “NCERT has been playing a significant role in the field of education. However, we felt the need to expand its role for better quality and innovation. This is why we have accorded it the status of a deemed university.”
Pradhan also stressed the importance of developing content in regional languages and proposed the establishment of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Artificial Intelligence labs in all seven regional centers of NCERT. He envisioned these centers equipped with cutting-edge technologies from around the world to create future-ready infrastructure. Additionally, he urged NCERT to standardize the teacher training curriculum to align with NCERT’s Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) framework.
