The Education Minister of Punjab has made a steadfast commitment to ensuring that no government school in the state runs without a teacher or operates with only one teacher by March. Underlining the notable strides made since the Bhagwant Mann-led administration took charge in March 2022, the minister highlighted the significant reduction in the number of teacherless or understaffed schools.
Progress in Teacher Allocation
Out of the 20,000 state-run schools, approximately 3,500 were either without teachers or had only one teacher before the current administration. The minister reported a substantial decrease, with the count now standing at less than 600. This achievement marks a substantial leap towards ensuring quality education in every government school.
Education Equality and Rights
Expressing the government’s commitment to education equality and rights, the minister affirmed that Punjab is on track to become the first state in the country where every school will have a teaching staff. This commitment aligns with the goal of providing free and quality education under the Right to Education Act, particularly for marginalized communities.
Technological Upgrades and Infrastructure Plans
Looking ahead, the government plans to equip all 20,000 government schools with WiFi by March. Already, WiFi systems have been installed in 4,000 schools, reflecting a significant step towards integrating technology into the education landscape. Additionally, the announcement of plans to establish 10,000 new classrooms underscores the commitment to accommodating the growing student population and enhancing overall infrastructure.
