In a recent session at the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, shared significant insights into the transformative strides made in India’s education sector. With a staggering 300 million students, Pradhan highlighted the government’s initiatives, focusing on enrollment growth, particularly among girls and marginalized communities.

Noteworthy Growth in Girl’s Education

Pradhan revealed a commendable 31% surge in girls’ enrollment in schools between 2014-15. This positive shift is attributed to various initiatives spearheaded by the Modi-led government, aiming to bridge gender gaps in education.

Inclusivity in Higher Education

Addressing the stark contrast between the vast student population and those pursuing higher education, Pradhan shared that the government has successfully increased the number of students in higher studies by 20-25%. Notably, students from Scheduled Castes (SC) experienced a 50% growth rate, while Scheduled Tribe (ST) students saw an impressive 65% increase.

OBCs and Minorities

The minister emphasized the growth in Other Backward Classes (OBCs) participation in education, along with a substantial 45% rise in female students from the Muslim minority in schools. These statistics reflect the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive education.

New Education Policy’s Promise

Looking ahead, Pradhan expressed optimism about the New Education Policy, foreseeing its pivotal role in elevating India’s educational landscape over the next three years. He believes these policy measures will encourage more children to pursue education, paving the way for national development.

Revitalizing Indian Languages

Highlighting the importance of language in preserving India’s cultural essence, Pradhan shared the government’s decision to enhance the teaching of Indian languages. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has mandated that students in classes 11 and 12 study a minimum of two languages, one of which must be an Indian language.

CBSE Circular for Language Inclusivity

In a progressive move, Pradhan mentioned that CBSE has issued a circular ensuring the availability of teaching and learning materials for 20 Indian civil languages in schools. This step is aligned with the government’s vision to strengthen linguistic diversity in the education system.
