West Bengal: The West Bengal government on Tuesday overturned the higher education department’s decision to introduce a centralized online admission system for undergraduate courses this year and decided to follow the old process of admitting students applying to colleges.
Education Minister Bratya Basu told reporters after a meeting with the vice-chancellors of state-run universities that the admission process in graduates would be the same as in pre-Covid times, where a student would have to apply for a seat in a particular college and the respective Higher educational institutions will decide on the basis of their admission criteria and seat availability.

Basu said the vice-chancellors told him that the infrastructure for an online centralized admission portal was not ready yet. The Education Minister said, that the COVID situation and restrictions have made it difficult for them to immediately ensure centralized online admission process in undergraduate courses in their affiliated colleges as the admission session is about to begin soon. We will definitely start it by next year.
