In a significant development for the 2024-25 academic session, Delhi University (DU) has allocated 24,869 seats across various undergraduate programs in its second round of admissions. This comes after a substantial first round where 65,775 students secured their spots.
Understanding the Allocation Strategy
With only 6,100 seats remaining out of the total 71,600, DU has opted to allocate more seats than available. This strategy is based on the observation from the first round, where around 35,000 students did not accept their allocated seats. DU Dean of Admission, Haneet Gandhi, explained, “To ensure every seat is filled and classes can start on August 29, we are allocating additional seats this round.”
Seats for Upgraded Preferences
Among the 43,067 candidates who sought upgrades, 27,554 have been allocated seats of higher preference. This adjustment aims to accommodate students’ preferences and optimize seat utilization.
Reconsideration for Rejected Candidates
In a bid to address previous rejections due to invalid certificates or documents, DU has re-evaluated these candidates. Those who were initially rejected can now be considered under the unreserved (UR) category, based on merit and seat availability.
Improved Admission Process
DU has revamped its system to better handle seat upgrades. The enhanced system will automatically activate upgraded seat allocations, allowing colleges to process admissions more efficiently. This change aims to reduce issues for students who previously faced challenges with upgrading their seats.
Important Dates for Second Round
Students who have been allocated seats in this round must confirm their acceptance by 4:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. The payment deadline is 4:59 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024. Those who wish to be considered for further upgrades must complete their payment within the given timeframe.
The Third Round
The upcoming third round will include allocations for performance-based programs and supernumerary quotas, such as CW, ECA, Sports, and Ward categories. Details of this round will be announced soon, providing further opportunities for students to secure their preferred programs.
