The Delhi High Court made a decisive ruling, refusing to postpone the CA 2024 exams. The petition, seeking to reschedule the Chartered Accountants (CA) intermediate and final exams slated for May, was brought before Justice C Hari Shankar. Despite pleas from CA aspirants to defer the exams to June due to the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha general elections, the court upheld the original schedule.
Revised Exam Dates
The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) made adjustments to the exam timetable to avoid any clash with the impending Lok Sabha elections. The revised dates for CA intermediate and final exams are as follows:
- CA Intermediate Group 1: May 3, 5, and 9 (previously May 7)
- CA Intermediate Group 2: May 11, 15, and 17 (previously May 9, 11, and 13)
- CA Final Group 1: May 2, 4, and 8 (previously May 6)
- CA Final Group 2: May 10, 14, and 16 (previously May 8, 10, and 12)
Student Dissatisfaction and Legal Support
Despite ICAI’s efforts to accommodate the election schedule, many CA aspirants expressed discontent with the revised exam dates. They advocated for a postponement to June, citing concerns over preparation amidst the electoral process. Child activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai has thrown her support behind the CA students, aiding in the presentation of their case before the court.
ICAI’s Announcement on Exam Frequency
In a separate development, the Institute announced a significant change in the frequency of CA Foundation and Intermediate exams. Instead of the usual two attempts annually, these exams will now be held thrice a year. While this new pattern will be piloted at the Foundation and Intermediate levels initially, the traditional biannual format will remain for the CA Final exam, at least for the time being. The Institute is expected to implement this change starting this year, following the May exams.
