The University of Strathclyde Law School has introduced a fresh opportunity for students with its newly launched LLM Law, Technology, and Innovation course. This program offers a fusion of legal and technological expertise, delivered by proficient instructors and international scholars.
What the Course Offers
This LLM course enables students to delve into a blend of legal and technological skills, under the guidance of subject specialists and visiting international scholars. Participants will have the chance to embark on their technological projects while acquiring insights into the legal frameworks governing technology’s design, development, and global distribution.
Exploring the Curriculum
Students will delve into legal matters concerning innovation and leadership within the evolving landscape of automated decision-making and algorithmic regulation powered by AI, machine learning, big data, and other technological advancements. The curriculum encompasses diverse elective modules, covering areas such as coding for lawyers, statistics and machine learning for legal applications, cyber security law, economics of digital markets, and human rights in digital technologies.
Course Structure and Summer Project Options
The LLM Law, Technology and Innovation program span over a year for full-time students. Successful completion entails finishing six modules and a summer project, which can be tailored to individual interests and career aspirations. Summer project options include a dissertation, internship, consultancy, enhanced research proposal, or coding project.
Unique Summer Project Opportunities
In addition to traditional dissertation routes, students can opt for internships or consultancies as part of their summer projects. This involves spending a minimum of 100 hours working for or with an external organization, providing hands-on experience in real-world settings.
Admission Requirements and Scholarships
Prospective applicants need a first or second-class Honours degree, or its equivalent, in Law or any other field. Relevant work experience may also be considered. Notably, a background in Law or Computer Science is not mandatory for this program.
Financial Aspects
The tuition fee for international students for the academic year 2024/25 is £21,700. However, international applicants have the opportunity to apply for the Humanities & Social Sciences Postgraduate Taught International scholarship, ranging from £4,000 to £5,000. Applicants must hold an offer for a full-time postgraduate taught degree program for the academic year 2024/5 to be eligible for the scholarship.
