The Madras High Court has mandated that notices be sent to representatives of the Tamil Nadu Education Department and the college’s administrative head in the Tiruppur district, because they disobeyed its earlier instructions.
The notice was issued by the division bench of Justices S. Vaidyanathan and N. Mala in response to a number of requests for sanctions against Dr. C. Jothi Venkateswaran, Director of Collegiate Education in Chennai, Dr. K. Murugan, Registrar of Bharathiar University in Coimbatore, Rev. Dr. D. Chandrasekaran, Bishop and Chairman of Bishop Thorp College in Tiruppur district, and Dr. V. Kalaiselvi, Joint Director of Collegiate Education in Coimbatore.
The present bench stated that the college was required to comply with the first bench’s ruling that the contempt petitioners were entitled to UGC pay rates in its common judgement of February 13, 2020.
The judges of Madras HC stated, “In light of the foregoing, we are prima facie of the considered opinion that the respondents are guilty of willful disobedience of the February 13, 2020 order passed on a batch of writ appeals, which confirmed the common order passed in 2015 passed on a batch of writ petitions from the petitioners.
