NEW DELHI: Together, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) founded the School Innovation Council (SIC) and designated over 12,800 teachers as Innovation Ambassadors.

The School Innovation Council (SIC) is an initiative by the apex education bodies of India to build the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem with the schools.

According to the ministry, “the creation of SICs in schools is a step linked with the aim of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to foster ideation, unconventional thinking, innovation, and entrepreneurship at the school education level in a sustainable way.”

The demographic dividend we discuss is available until 2047, according to Anita Karwal, secretary of the Ministry of Education’s department of school education and literacy. Since we cannot predict the difficulties that the future will bring, it is crucial that all children develop creativity and an openness to new ideas.

She said that while textbooks are a tool for encouraging innovation, more needs to be done.

She also urged parents and teachers to get children closer to what is happening around them and participate in everything that will stimulate and develop their competencies.

She said, “The new national curriculum framework will introduce a highly-reduced, core-essential curriculum, so the kids can work on 21st-century skills development outside of school.”

Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, chairman of the AICTE, expressed his delight at the “Triveni Sangam” of all top educational organisations for the launch, saying that it would encourage a culture of ideation, innovation, entrepreneurship, creative thinking, design thinking, prototyping, unconventional thinking, and IP commercialization even among students. “We must promote creativity in the classroom and administer tests in a way that is not dependent on memorization,” he continued.

The SIC, according to Nidhi Chhibber, Chairperson, CBSE, is a special bridge that brings together academic institutions, businesses, HEIs, specialists, and entrepreneurs. When they transition from schools to HEIs and ultimately the industry, it will establish a strong foundation for them in innovative thinking and creative thinking, she noted.

A leadership talk, a panel discussion with successful entrepreneurs and innovators, as well as site visits for programme identification and prioritisation are all part of the SIC calendar of events. The top POCs and prototypes from around India will then be displayed, and some promising startup concepts may even receive funding.
