The Karnataka state minister of higher education, CN Ashwath Narayan, stated on Monday that the admissions process for degree-granting institutions in Karnataka will begin on July 11.

For the first time, all colleges’ admission processes would use the same platform (Unified University and College Management System). Without physically visiting many institutions to submit applications, students can use a single login to apply to any college of their choice.

For the first time, all colleges’ admission processes would use the same platform (Unified University and College Management System). By using a single login, students can submit applications to any college of their choice without having to physically visit each institution.

Students who recently applied for undergraduate programmes online at various state colleges expressed their indignation and complained about platform technical issues that were impeding their admissions process. The minister underlined, however, that students can begin applying on July 11 using the single login interface, which is now free of technical difficulties.

Narayan further emphasised that a report on creating public universities in the state equivalent to IIMs had been submitted by the committee led by Dr. Vasudeva Atre. A copy of the proposed Act, which is based on this report, has been posted on the website of the higher education department for public inspection and comment.

In fact, the Atre plan emphasised that a Board of Governors (BOG) should be the authority that picks the vice-chancellor of the university rather than the state government, which should have no voice in the matter.
