Lakhs of students studying in Delhi University’s (DU) School of Open Learning (SOL) and regular have not taken their degrees yet. About 4.5 lakh degrees are lying in Delhi University’s SOL itself, which students have not come to collect for many years.

According to media reports, Prof. Umashankar Pandey, Officer on Special Duty, DU SOL says that there is a different kind of apathy among the students regarding taking the degree. There are more than 5 lakh degrees left in the university.

Umashankar further says that the oldest degree we have here is of 1966 batch. At the same time, 5 degrees of 1967 batch, 1 degree of 1968 batch and 17 degrees of 1969 batch are kept with us. Those who have this degree, if they come to collect it, then the university will also honor them.

Between the years 1966 to 2019, the degrees of more than 4,42,500 students who graduated from BA program and BCom course are lying with us. At the same time, 30,000 degrees in BA Honors (Political Science), 8 thousand degrees of BA Honors (English) and 23 thousand degrees of BCom Honors are waiting for students. Talking about all the courses of post graduation, there are more than 12 thousand degrees lying in the university.

There is no enthusiasm about taking a degree even among the regular students of Delhi University. A DU official says that this year, about 1 lakh 80 thousand degrees were issued online in the convocation ceremony, but so far only 10 thousand students have downloaded their online degree. Students are not even bothering to download the degree online.

Students can apply online for the degree by visiting the official website of Delhi University. The degree is sent free of cost to the students of SOL on behalf of DU. On the other hand, students studying regularly can take their degree from their college. However, students can also download their degree online.
