The University of Delhi’s department heads have created a new curriculum that is aligned with the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022. In addition to gaining degrees, the main focus is on preparing students for employment through skill upgrading courses.

The DU’s Executive Council (EC) approved the draught UGCF in February in order to accomplish the goals set forth in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The dean of faculties would be required to submit the syllabus to the standing committee, which would then present the syllabus to the Academic Council (AC) and the Executive Committee (EC).

“Syllabus that has been created for all the eight semesters of Commerce is in sync with the objectives of UGC, 2022 that would be implemented in the university from 2022-23,” says Ajay Kumar Singh, Head, Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics (DSE), DU. According to UGC 2022, students who depart after one year will obtain a certificate, a diploma after two years, a BCom (Hons) degree after three years, and a BCom (Hons) degree with research after four years. We made sure that the students are employable even if they opt to leave after one year while developing the syllabus. We’ve included practical tasks in each course that are aligned with the Course Learning Outcomes and lead to the achievement of Programme Outcomes (POs).”

DU has changed the nomenclature of the course on ‘Indian Economy’ to ‘The Economy of Bharat’ in which we have included the contribution of India to the global trade in the past and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) of that time in the first unit. In the last unit, we have also incorporated the concept of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are the global standards set by UN for the survival of the world.

Agriculture, industry, and service industries make up the traditional components of the Indian economy. We’ve added a new paper called ‘Business Analytics,’ and it’s now part of the core curriculum. Employability-oriented courses have been prominently featured, and additional electives have been offered on top of that. Mind Management, Yoga & Happiness, Consumer Affairs and Sovereignty, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) are some of the electives that have been added.

“The framework of UGC 2022 has been passed at the university, which consists of distinct specific courses, general electives, value-added courses, and skill enhancement courses for different streams,” says Najma Rehmani, head, Department of Urdu, DU. We’ve listed courses that will assist you in finding work. We have created page-making software, which will allow students to learn how to design pages and type in the Urdu script. We’ve also added broad electives for students who don’t know Urdu, giving them the opportunity to learn something other than their core subject. We’re having trouble meeting deadlines while constructing the curriculum.”
