UNESCO published a report called The 2023 Global Education Monitoring Report, in which it lauds the state of Kerala for its technical contributions to its education sector. This state stands at the top in education with a 94% per cent literacy rate. The report praised the state for its advancements in its SchoolWiki portal, free software policy and impressive internet connectivity in schools.
SchoolWiki portal
The report gives mention to the SchoolWiki portal, an internet source which has managed to create content for more than 15000 schools across the state. launched, in 2009 by KITE, it was developed for collaborative work to improve the content and gives an insight into the school’s data, alumni, images, digital magazines and so on. Moreover, it is the largest platform for information in the local language.
free software policy
Moreover, it lauded the state’s attempt to give students access to free software by saying, ‘Some countries have become champions in free software.’ It talks about the state’s free software policy, where they gave out over 2 Lakh laptops with free software to schools. Moreover, it was previously stated by NITI Aayog, that this has saved the state about ₹3,000 crore. It also plans to make ICT textbooks using this portal.
highest internet connectivity
Lastly, it talks about the impressive internet connectivity in schools making it the state with the highest internet connectivity. Moreover, V. Sivankutty, the Minister for General Education expressed his desire to make the best in digital education. Moreover, he expressed his pride as being metioned in the Global Education Monitoring Report by UNESCO is a huge achievement.
