The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has rectified a data computation error and announced the results for the recruitment of constables in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for Manipur, following an official statement.
Delay in Result Declaration for Manipur
Initially, on August 20, 2023, the SSC declared the final result for various positions including Constable in CFs, Secretariat Security Force, Rifleman in Assam Rifles, and Sepoy in Narcotics Control Bureau Examination, 2022, for all states and Union Territories except Manipur. However, due to the law and order situation in Manipur, the physical and medical tests couldn’t be conducted, leading to a delay in the result declaration for the state.
Result Declaration for Manipur
On March 15, 2024, the final result for Manipur, covering 597 vacancies, was declared on the SSC’s website. Nonetheless, a data discrepancy from one phase was overlooked during the result processing, resulting in the withdrawal of the result on March 18, 2024.
Rectification of Error
After a comprehensive review of the complete data, the SSC rectified the discrepancy and issued changes to the result on March 21, 2024. The revised result now accurately reflects the candidates’ standings. Out of 49,590 vacancies processed initially, 45,217 candidates were provisionally recommended for appointment, while the candidature of 1,337 candidates was kept withheld.
Background on Manipur Situation
Manipur has faced challenges related to ethnic strife, with violence erupting due to protests against the demand for Scheduled Tribe status by the Meitei community. This situation has affected the conduct of exams and recruitment processes in the state. At least 219 people have been killed in ethnic strife in Manipur since May last year.
Allocation of Vacancies
A total of 597 vacancies for Manipur were reconsidered for allocation among various forces, including Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Assam Rifles, Narcotics Control Bureau, and Secretariat Security Force.
The meticulous rectification process underscores the SSC’s commitment to fair recruitment practices, vital for filling Group B and Group C posts across central ministries and departments.
