The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the NEET UG Revised Scorecard 2024 today, July 26, 2024, following a directive from the Supreme Court. This update came after an ambiguous Physics question prompted a recalibration of the NEET UG merit list.
Why the Revision?
On July 23, 2024, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the revised results for NEET UG 2024 would be available within two days. This decision followed the Supreme Court’s directive to address the ambiguity in the Physics question, as recommended by an IIT-Delhi expert committee.

Impact on NEET UG Scores
The initial results, released on June 4, showed 67 students tied for the top rank. However, due to the Supreme Court’s decision to accept only one correct option for the disputed question, the number of top scorers is expected to drop from 61 to an estimated 17. This change will affect the scores of approximately 4.2 lakh students who had initially selected the previously accepted answer.
NEET-UG Counselling
Following the release of the NEET UG Revised Scorecard 2024, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will start the registration process for NEET-UG counselling. This phase is crucial for admissions to MBBS and BDS programs across India. During registration, candidates will select their preferred colleges and courses.
Supreme Court’s Directive and Ongoing Investigations
On July 23, the Supreme Court directed the NTA to revise the scores and release the NEET UG Revised Scorecard 2024. The court confirmed a NEET UG 2024 paper leak in Patna and Hazaribagh, instructing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to continue its probe. Despite these issues, the court has allowed the counselling and admission processes to proceed as planned. Additionally, new guidelines have been suggested to prevent future problems, and the NTA is required to revise the NEET UG merit list based on the IIT-Delhi expert panel’s recommendations.
