NEW DELHI: Retired Principals and Vice Principals from Delhi’s government schools will be hired as in charge of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) study centres by the education department of Delhi, said officials. For the appointment, only principals, and vice-principals from schools run by the Delhi government such as Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalas and, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will be eligible.
A senior Directorate of Education (DoE) official said that “The contractual coordinators for the nodal centre will be responsible for all tasks of the NIOS project, including ensuring safety, security and to maintain the discipline of the study centre.
The main task of the appointed NIOS in charge would be to frame a centralised timetable for holding classes, distributing study material, ensuring the quality of teaching, and keeping in touch with parents and counselling them.
“The coordinators will work for an extra hour over and above the normal working hours of heads of government schools,” the official said.
“Their engagement will be up to April 2023 which will be extended subject to satisfactory performance and requirement,” he further added.

No financial power to be given to contractual coordinators
The official informed that coordinators will have to achieve at least a minimum of 70% in the NIOS examination. “The contractual coordinators will not have financial powers of any kind,” he further said. “Only those candidates will be considered for the appointment who are free from vigilance angle. They will be entitled to eight days of leave in a calendar year on a pro-rata basis,” he added.
