Central Government’s Massive Investment in Odisha’s Higher Education
The central government has committed Rs 500 crore to boost the development and infrastructure of higher education institutions across Odisha under the PM-USHA initiative. Minister Pradhan emphasized that August 31 marks a significant milestone for the state’s educational landscape. This initiative is closely aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the National Education Policy, 2020, aiming to elevate the quality of higher education.
Key Objectives of PM-USHA Programme
The PM-USHA programme is designed to promote access, equity, and excellence in higher education throughout Odisha. The funding for this initiative will be divided, with 60 percent coming from the central government and the remaining 40 percent covered by the state. The goal is to transform Odisha’s state universities into world-class institutions, providing students with essential 21st-century skills.
Chief Minister Charan’s Vision for Odisha’s Higher Education
Chief Minister Mohan Charan outlined the programme’s ambitious goal to upskill one crore students and establish Odisha as a prominent center of knowledge. He also announced plans to grant autonomy to state universities, reflecting the BJP’s election manifesto. The PM-USHA scheme will focus on revamping curricula, enhancing teacher training, developing infrastructure, and boosting employability, thereby contributing to regional equity and sustainable development.
