The Apollo International Clinical Fellowship Program (ICFP), which was introduced on Tuesday by Apollo Education UK, a division of the Apollo Hospitals group, would give Indian professionals the chance to pursue a master’s degree in surgery or medicine at Edge Hill University in the United Kingdom in 2022. The programme is a component of Apollo Education UK’s (AEUK) Global Workforce Development (GWD) initiative, according to a statement from the company. It was carried out in collaboration with the Global Training and Education Centre (GTEC) at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Edge Hill University, UK.
The three-year programme offers specialty pathways to doctors who have completed their MS/MD/DnB in India. Selected doctors will spend the first year in India at Apollo Hospitals and the second and the third years working and learning in NHS Hospitals in the UK, it added.
Before being assigned to a UK hospital for the next two or more years, where they can finish their clinical learning, they will receive mentorship from senior doctors at Apollo Hospitals in India during the preparatory year to help with the transition into NHS clinical practise, according to the statement.
“At the same time as gaining this international work experience in an area of specialty, doctors will study for a Master of Surgery or Master of Medicine degree at Edge Hill University,” it added.

According to the firm, the Apollo ICFP is the newest project under the “Apollo Knowledge” banner, which refers to the Apollo Group’s skilling, training, education, and resource arm.
“This is part of our Global Workforce Development (GWD) initiative to enable and provide education, training and recruitment job opportunities across geographies for healthcare professionals so that they get trained and upskilled and add value to themselves and their own healthcare systems,” Apollo Knowledge CEO Sivaramakrishnan Venkateswaran said.
Clare Austin, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine at Edge Hill University, said, “This is an important opportunity for the Master of Surgery and Master of Medicine programmes to support the recruitment and training of international doctors as part of our long-standing learn, earn, return and excel scheme.
Global Training and Education Centre Clinical Director, Professor Raj Murali stated that the NHS is a “great institution… to obtain invaluable work experience from world-class mentors,” and “the doctors on the course will surely profit from their time with us.”
