NIMSR: Nagaland opened its first-ever medical college in Kohima called, Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research, commonly referred to as Kohima Medical College. The college has been a dream for the state for the longest time, finally fulfilled with 100 students gaining admission for their first batch. On August 28th, the college wrapped up its admission process and allotted MBBS seats to 100 students, 85 from the state and 15 outside the state. Along with this, on 1st September, the college started, with the introduction of these students and the college. Moreover, this college has a 45-member, highly qualified faculty.

On this auspicious event, the Principal of the college, Dr Soumya Chakraborty welcomed the new batch of students and encouraged them to work hard by making use of the resources provided by the institute. Moreover, Ritu Thurr, Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare, said that there is no luck involved, only sheer hard work pays off. In addition to that, they told the students that success only comes from hard work, discipline and sacrifices. She said “There is no substitute for hard work. The harder you work, the luckier you get,”
Chief Secretary on the opening of the medical college
Along with them, Chief Secretary J Alam also spoke. He said that this institute marks history as the first-ever medical college in the state. In addition to that, he said that it is a result of the hard work and dedication of many individuals, and has been a dream of many for a long time. Along with this, he mentioned that the institute has the full support of the government for any needs. He stated, “It is a memorable moment for the whole state as we finally have a medical college of our own. This is the start of a transformative journey, and will shape the future of healthcare in the state,”
