Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has introduced a new collaborative Master’s Programme (JMP) focusing on ‘Water Security and Global Change’. This initiative is in partnership with two esteemed German universities – RWTH Aachen (RWTH) and TU Dresden (TUD), along with AIT, Bangkok, and UNU-FLORES.
Eligibility and Application Process
Interested candidates have until April 30 to apply for this exciting new programme offered by IIT Madras. Both Indian and international students with specific engineering backgrounds are eligible to apply. To be eligible for admission, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with a major in one of the following academic subjects:
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Hydro Science Engineering
- Water Resources Engineering
- Computational Engineering
- Agricultural or Landscape Engineering
Additionally, the qualifying degree must meet the following criteria:
- It should comprise a minimum workload of 180 ECTS-Points or be awarded by a recognized higher education institution.
- The cumulative grade point average should not be below 60 per cent aggregate marks or equivalent.
- For students who have not completed their graduate studies in English, proficiency in English is required. This can be demonstrated through recognized English tests such as IELTS or TOEFL.
Programme Structure and Fees
Classes for the first batch of students will commence on July 29. The programme structure offers students the opportunity to study at all three partner universities, with the flexibility to choose where to conduct their Master’s thesis. The fees for the programme are as follows:
- Rs 36,400 per semester at IIT Madras
- 287 Euros per semester at TU Dresden
- 335 Euros per semester at RWTH Aachen
Students should note that medical insurance is included in the fees at IIT Madras, but they need to arrange insurance for their stay in Germany. Accommodation, living expenses, and travel costs are not included in the fees. However, scholarships are available for eligible students.
Internships and Research Opportunities
The programme offers internships and Master thesis opportunities in collaboration with various companies, governmental agencies, and NGOs. Students will gain hands-on experience and work closely with experts in the field.
Global Mobility and Interdisciplinary Studies
One of the key features of the programme is the mobility of enrolled students among the three universities. Students will commence their academic year at IIT Madras and spend at least one semester each at TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen. This mobility provides students with diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary learning, equipping them with the skills to tackle water security challenges and climate adaptation in a global context.
