Over BJB college girl’s suicide, Odisha bandh was called on July 19

Bhubaneshwar: Odisha police informed that it has not found any proof of ragging in the recent suicide case of a female student of BJB Autonomous college, soon after the day an organization on Wednesday called out for an Odisha bandh on July 19 in order to demand justice for the girl.

The victim’s mother came forward in support of the Odisha bandh called by the Naba Nirman Chhatra Sangathan, the student wing of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sanghathan, a farmers’ body.

The victim, 19-year-old, on July 2 was found hanging in her hostel room. A suicide note was found wherein she said that she was not able to cope with the ragging and mental harassment caused by her three senior students. The Plus-III first-year student, however, did not mention any name.

Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan convenor Akhsya Kumar urged people to make the Odisha bandh successful in order to show justice to the victim. The convenor said that the members of the organisation will lead a dharna in front of the directorate of the Police’s office on July 17 demanding action against those responsible for the girl’s suicide.

On Tuesday, Prateek Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubneshwar said that the police have questioned around 198 people including hostel inmates, students, faculty, and staff members while investigating the suicide case but haven’t found any clue of ragging.
