PANAJI: On Tuesday, Goa’s chief minister Pramod Sawant presided over a meeting with the leaders of the state’s leading educational institutions to address the state’s economic and social progress.
The vice chancellor of Goa University, deans of IIT Goa, director of NIT, director of Goa Institute of Management, and director of BITS Goa campus participated in the discussions.
The CM, Pramod Sawant expressed his desire to collaborate with top academics from these institutions to address issues unique to his state, such as rural livelihood and development, sustainable development of natural resources, waste management in the state, smart and sustainable tourism development, expansion of infrastructure and sustainable development, implementation of the New Education Policy, etc.

Heads of these academic institutions talked about their expertise in various fields and offered to work with the state government on the ideas proposed by the CM.
The CM urged them to list five areas of specialisation for each institute that the state government would review in order to collaborate with them on areas of shared interest and importance.
According to CM, this partnership will be advantageous for both parties, and the state would gain from the high calibre research conducted by these schools. Working on the state’s practical issues would help institutes as well.
