Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has introduced a revolutionary change in the academic landscape: starting from 2025-26, students will have the flexibility to appear for their 10th and 12th board exams twice a year. This move, a key aspect of the National Education Policy (NEP) unveiled in 2020, aims to alleviate the burden of academic stress while promoting student well-being.
Reducing Academic Stress
Aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, this initiative aims to alleviate the academic stress on students, providing them with ample opportunities to excel in their examinations and pursue a well-rounded education. The move is expected to bring a significant reduction in stress levels among students, enabling them to focus more on learning and holistic development.
Introduction of Bag-less Days
In a bid to further ease the burden on students, the ministry plans to introduce 10 bag-less days in schools each year. These days will be dedicated to engaging students in various extracurricular activities such as art, culture, and sports, fostering holistic development. This approach not only promotes a balanced education but also enhances students’ overall well-being by encouraging participation in activities beyond academics.
Twice-a-Year Board Examinations
Under the New Curriculum Framework (NCF), unveiled by the Ministry of Education, board examinations will now be held at least twice annually. This move ensures that students have sufficient time and opportunities to perform to the best of their abilities, with the option to retain their highest scores. By providing multiple chances for examination, the initiative aims to reduce the pressure associated with board exams and enable students to showcase their true potential.
Empowering Education with NEP 2020
Pradhan underscores Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision embedded within the NEP, emphasizing the goal of providing quality education and preparing students for the future. The NEP’s comprehensive approach aims to transform India into a developed nation by 2047, focusing on holistic development and cultural enrichment.
Transforming Education in Chhattisgarh
The PM SHRI scheme aims to upgrade 211 schools in Chhattisgarh in its first phase, following a ‘hub and spoke’ model. Each school will receive ₹2 crore for enhancement, with mentor institutions guiding mentee institutions for self-improvement. Through such initiatives, the government seeks to improve infrastructure, enhance teaching standards, and provide better learning opportunities for students across the state.
Aiming for Olympic Glory
Setting ambitious goals for Chhattisgarh, Pradhan envisions a bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games and aims for 10% of India’s medals to come from Chhattisgarh athletes. This highlights the government’s commitment to sports development and nurturing talent from grassroots levels, contributing to the overall growth and development of the state.
