The official notification states that the special holiday applies exclusively to employees, students, and individuals who are registered as voters in Rajasthan. This move is aimed at facilitating their participation in the electoral process and ensuring that they can exercise their right to vote without any hindrance.
Legal Basis for Leave
The announcement cites the legal provisions under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 8/1996) as the basis for granting paid leave on the election day. Closure Extension to Private Sector
In addition to government institutions and schools, the special holiday has been extended to employees working in shops, factories, and private establishments situated in Haryana. Telangana Schools Await Decision
While Haryana takes proactive measures, government schools in Telangana are also anticipated to remain closed on November 29 and 30, 2023. An official announcement is pending, and the Election Commission may order the closure of schools in advance of the elections, allowing for a 2-day holiday.
