The Karnataka government has made a significant move to ease the burden on students and enhance their academic performance by approving a government order for the Karnataka State Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) to conduct three annual exams for Class 10 (SSLC) and Class 12 (second PUC) students. This change will be effective for the academic year 2023-24, aiming to reduce student stress.
A Farewell to Supplementary Exams
The concept of supplementary exams for SSLC and second PUC is being phased out in Karnataka, with the objective of providing a more stress-free academic environment for students. This reform allows students to retain their best score from the three annual exams, promoting a focus on continuous improvement rather than pressure-filled supplementary exams.
Enhancing Opportunities for Education and Employment
The primary goal of this reform is to open up better opportunities for higher education and employment for students. Additionally, it is expected to contribute to an increase in the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education across Karnataka, aligning with the government’s vision for educational growth.
The government has set clear guidelines, including a 75% attendance requirement and a fixed examination fee, streamlining the examination process for students. The tentative exam schedule has also been provided, aiding students in planning and preparation.
This step by the Karnataka government signifies a transition towards a more student-centric examination system, with a focus on reducing stress and improving the overall academic performance of students. The aim is to create an environment where students can excel and achieve their potential without the added pressure of supplementary exams
