IIT Jodhpur: A team of researchers at IIT Jodhpur developed a device that can reduce the toxins in air anywhere indoors. The scientists at IIT Jodhpur who invented this device are from the physics department of this prestigious university. They are, Prof Ram Prakash, Prof Ambesh Dixit, Ramavtar Jangra, a researcher and Kiran Ahlawat, also a researcher at this University. The study has been recorded and its final results have been published in Nature Scientific Reports Journal. Moreover, the device has been tried and tested, resulting in a 99.99% decrease in air pollutants that can be deemed harmful.
What does the device do?
The device can be used only in a limited environment, therefore, only in indoor locations, where it treats the contaminated air by the use of air detergents, that clean the air. The detergent is commonly called, plasma detergent which attacks the harmful pathogens in the surrounding air. This results in a drastic decrease in harmful air that surrounds us. Moreover, this only takes about 25 seconds to do so. The technology used in the device produces a quasi-neutral electric atmosphere that balances the negative and positive charges in the air.
Divya Plasma Solutions
This technological marvel is built upon by Divya Plasma Solutions to create an indoor air sterilizer. Divya Plasma Solutions is a start-up created by the institute’s, IIT Jodhpur Technology Innovation and Start-up Centre. One of the inventors, Ram Prakash, promotes this start-up company along with Anil Sapra, Bina Sapra and Pradeep Jain. Upon building this device, one of the creators said, “We initiated this work during the COVID-19 pandemic to disinfect indoor environment and with a hard work of three years we have come up with the Novel CODE-based indoor air sterilizers which will be soon available in the market for commercial use. The developed CODE device is unique with multiple advantages and will be highly useful for hospitals to reduce cross contamination besides its usages in indoor public places.”
