Punjab Govt School Teacher: Amritpal Singh, a 41-year-old government school teacher in Punjab is to receive National Award on Teachers Day for his excellent contribution to innovation in Computer Science in education. This government school teacher teaches at Government Senior Secondary School, Chhapar in Ludhiana, and will be the first teacher from Punjab to win a National Award. Moreover, this ceremony will be held in Delhi, where the National Award will be awarded to Amritpal Singh Union Ministry of education. Apart from him, 49 other teachers will also be awarded the National Award.
Punjab teacher to win National Award
Amritpal Singh is known for making immeasurable contributions to his school since his posting in 2009 as a faculty member in computer science. However, for the last 17 years, he has been working on many projects in this field. In his current school, he Has built a working computer Lab in his school called a “thin client networking computer lab”, reflecting on the lack of importance given to Computer Science as a subject in Punjab Govt schools. The Computer Lab is made by Rs1.7 lakh that were collected via donations. Apart from this, he also made several other initiatives to make students more interested in the subject. As a result, he created a self-assessment test for students called “ICT Parvaaz” where students can easily take the test online to find out what areas they lack. He says ” “A total of 9.90 lakh students from across Punjab have used this tool till now which helps them to identify topics which need more practise,”. In addition to that, he also developed fun mobile games that are tailored for students for revision of major concepts of Computer Science. Moreover, he adds that over 3 lakh students are already using these games for revision. For the same, he will be awarded with the National Award.
Other Activities
Other than these initiatives, Amritpal Singh is a passionate teacher who encourages his students to participate in various competitions and has even won more than 215 Medals. Apart from this, he takes an interest in poetry and has written poetry books. Not only that, he has also written a novel called “Virus Novel”, about Computer Science.
